Weekend in Siem Reap

Without a doubt, you have come to Siem Reap because of Angkor Archaeological Park and for sure you would like to make the most out of your holiday trip. Siem Reap which is the gateway to Angkor Wat, is swarming with lush countryside, scenic views, tropical forests, sight seeing, historical treasures and ancient temples, which are sometimes undiscovered yet. This charming city is also a destination itself, ensnaring tourists with lively atmosphere, luxurious Siem Reap accommodations, mouth-watering local and international cuisines and places where you can rest and relax.

Here are Navutu Dreams‘ suggestions for families, couples and solo travelers spending a weekend in Siem Reap – Angkor of Cambodia.

For Families

Horseback-riding adventure is one of the top things to do for families visiting Siem Reap. Introduce your family to the Cambodian countryside by passing through lush rice paddy fields, local villages, red dirt roads and local pagodas – a relaxed way to experience Cambodia. The horseback-riding journey is ideal to experience either in the early morning before the heat gets unbearable or in the afternoon as the sun goes down. The Happy Ranch Horse Farm is Siem Reap’s only horse ranch which offers a variety of guided horse-cart rides and trail rides to suit all skill levels. They offer rides and lead rides for one hour ($28.00), two hours ($46.00), three hours ($59.00) and 4 hours ($69.00).

Does your family love nature? Take on a walking discovery tour with Belgian-born environment engineer, cartographer and nature photographer, Stephane de Greef. The nature discovery tour allows you and your  family to get an in-depth knowledge of plants, animals and archaeology. Learn more about a thousand of creatures that reside in the heart of an Angkorian forest and get a chance to discover long-forgotten temples as you embark on your journey.

Would you like to delve deeper into adventure? Siem Reap has a waterfall attraction called Phnom Kulen situated 3okm from Siem Reap town.  Climb up to the mountain and explore around. The waterfalls in Phnom Kulen National Park are a perfect spot to cool off. Plunge into the cold refreshing water that flows through the falls and do not miss to take photos as the waterfalls can be an amazing backdrop for your family pictures.

For Couples

Experience something new with your significant other on a weekend in Siem Reap. Why not deepen your connection by doing some meditation? Get inspired, re-charged and re-vitalized. Navutu Dreams’ destination-inspired activity, ‘sunrise meditation for two’ takes you and your other half to a rarely visited natural wonder in Angkor called ‘Peung Tanorn’. This will be a guided meditation to be led by one of Samadhi Yogashala & Wellness Center’s yoga instructors. Immerse yourself in the serenity of the surroundings and marvel around this magical place together afterwards.

Spending a romantic holiday in Siem Reap? Capture romantic moments with your better half while exploring the ancient temples of Angkor with Angkor Photography Tours. They offer a 4-hour photography session in four different temple locations including Angkor Wat and their professional team of photographers will capture those precious lovey-dovey moments and will put together a collection of beautiful portraits. The session will start in the afternoon from 2pm to sunset to also include sunset shots. Just simply smile for the camera and they will take care of everything. The photo session starts from US$280.00++. You can view more of their photography tours here.

Get entertained. Cambodia’s leading circus, theater and performing arts organization, Phare, The Cambodian Circus should be considered unmissable when visiting Siem Reap too. The performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. Make sure to be there early to get the best seat. The performances start 8:00pm daily.
