International Yoga Day
There are many spiritual dates in the calendar, but one relatively new date has been added and celebrated all over the world as well as here in Siem Reap; International Yoga Day!
June 21, 2017 is the date to mark in your diaries, as this would mark the third year for Siem Reap a part of the universal celebration. Last year, 1,000 people gathered at the sacred Angkor Wat site on this day and practiced yoga en masse.
The effect of practicing in such large groups can be very powerful, group consciousness and meditations magnify the healing qualities brought about by yoga, and this helps to bring to gather communities and put everyone on the same page.
The day itself was announced as recently as 2014 by the UN, to be International Yoga Day, and it was in fact suggested by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He had suggested this date as it is the summer solstice which is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and holds much spiritual significance all over the world. Furthermore, Yogi and Mystic Sadghuru adds that this date is also significant as it is the day that the first yogi, Adiyogi turned south and set his eyes on the Seven Sages who were to be his first disciples and carry the science of yoga to many parts of the World.
As far as support goes, as many as 175 nations co-sponsored the resolution, making it the highest number of countries to co-sponsor a resolution of this nature ever!
To be at the Angkor Wat Temples with so many others practicing is definitely a once in a lifetime experience, but even if you cannot make it to one of the gatherings which will be all over the world, then make sure you dedicate some time on the 21st June to doing some yoga, in the knowledge that thousands of others, somewhere in the world are doing the same!
Samadhi Yogashala & Wellness Center by Navutu Dreams will be holding a free yoga community class at our Siem Reap yoga studio on the International Yoga Day. The yoga community class is scheduled at 6:30 pm and everyone is welcome to join.
From everyone here at Samadhi Yoga,
